Register-based searchLast updated 2026-05-15

A register search is the broad category covering any inquiry made of an official register operated by a government body. In Australian commercial due diligence, the registers most commonly hit are:

  • PPSR (AFSA) — security interests in personal property.
  • ABR (ATO) — ABN, GST, trading names.
  • ASIC — company extracts, officer searches.
  • Land titles (state-by-state) — real-property ownership.
  • Court files — litigation history.

Hoist Assets covers PPSR and ABR. The other registers are out of scope; for those, see InfoTrack or GlobalX.

Related terms

  • ABN — A unique 11-digit identifier issued by the ATO for tax and business purposes; covers companies, sole traders, partnerships, trusts.
